Honoring Our Flags and Our Fathers

June brings two meaningful celebrations — Flag Day and Father's Day — along with a growing fuel need, upcoming Clay City distribution dates, and a call for prayer and volunteers.

Our mission is to serve our Lord, Jesus Christ, by meeting the spiritual and material needs of economically deprived individuals living in the Appalachians and surrounding areas.

Honoring Our Flags and Our Fathers

June is a month of meaningful celebration. Within just one week, we have the opportunity to honor two of the most important pillars of our lives — our nation and our fathers. Flag Day falls on June 14, and Father's Day is celebrated on June 15 — a beautiful reminder that patriotism and family are deeply intertwined in the fabric of who we are.

    Flag Day — June 14

Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Second Continental Congress officially adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States. More than two centuries later, our flag remains a powerful symbol of freedom, sacrifice, and unity.

This year, take a moment to display your flag with pride. Whether it hangs on your front porch, flies at your church, or decorates a community gathering, the American flag is a reminder of the countless men and women who gave — and continue to give — so much so that we might live free.

"In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved."
    — Franklin D. Roosevelt

    Father's Day — June 15

Father's Day is a time to express gratitude for the dads, grandfathers, stepfathers, mentors, and father figures who have shaped our lives with love, wisdom, and faithfulness. Whether your father is near or far, living or passed on, the influence of a good father echoes through generations.

This Father's Day, go beyond the card. Call him. Visit him. Share a meal. Tell him what he means to you — in your own words. Those moments matter far more than any gift. We also want to honor the fathers in our community who give selflessly every day — those who model integrity, compassion, and faith for their children. Thank you.

    A June Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of fathers — for the men who point us to You through their example, their patience, and their love. Bless them this month and always. And as we honor the flag that flies over this great land, may we never forget the freedoms we enjoy and the responsibility we carry to one another. Amen.

    Scripture Focus

"As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him."
    — Psalm 103:13 (NIV)

    Ministry Needs This Month

    Prayer Partners

We invite you to join us in prayer for the food pantries we serve, the faithful volunteers who give of themselves so lovingly, and the families who come in need of food, encouragement, and hope. Please also lift up our leaders, asking the Lord to grant wisdom, direction, and hearts that remain sensitive to His voice.

    Financial Partners

We thank God for every friend and supporter He has brought alongside this ministry. Every dollar given goes directly to feeding families in Eastern Kentucky, with nothing held back for overhead. All donations are tax-deductible, and we are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

    Fuel Partners

Servants of Our Lord Ministry is asking for help with fuel costs as we continue delivering food and supplies to families and relief agencies in Eastern Kentucky. Fuel is one of our largest expenses, and every gift helps us keep trucks on the road and food moving to those who need it most.

    A Growing Fuel Need

As our ministry continues to grow, fuel has become a new and important expense in helping us carry out the work God has placed before us. Transportation allows us to deliver supplies, visit families, support outreach efforts, and respond when opportunities to serve arise. Much of this work happens quietly, but every trip matters.

Because fuel costs add up quickly, we are asking our friends and supporters to prayerfully consider giving toward this need. Your gift helps keep our ministry moving and allows us to continue showing up where help is needed most.

    Help Us Be Good Stewards

As postage and printing costs continue to rise, we are prayerfully seeking ways to be faithful stewards of every dollar entrusted to us. To help reduce newsletter mailing expenses, we are updating our mailing list. If we have not received a donation or response from you in the past two years, this may be one of the final newsletters you receive by mail.

If you would like to continue receiving our newsletter by mail — or switch to email — please call or text us at (859) 363-6421 or email newsletter@servantsofourlord.com.

    Volunteer Corner

Volunteering is one of the most meaningful ways to serve others and share the goodness of God in your own life. Food insecurity touches many counties across Kentucky, and your hands can help make a real difference.

Mark your calendars — our Clay City, Kentucky distribution is coming up on Monday, July 13 and Tuesday, July 14. We'd love to have you join us!

If your youth group is looking for a service opportunity with a lasting impact across multiple communities, this is it. Summer is the perfect time to volunteer — no school schedules to compete with. Make it into a mini vacation: come help at our warehouse and then enjoy Kentucky's beautiful recreation areas!
