Honoring Work, Courage, and Service
September invites us to reflect on Labor Day and the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Labor Day recognizes the ordinary Americans whose daily efforts keep our families, communities, and nation moving forward. Work has dignity not simply because of what we produce, but because of how we serve others through it.
On September 11, we remember the fear and loss, but also the extraordinary courage of people who ran toward danger to help strangers. That spirit of service continues in quiet acts: loading a truck, packing food, driving hundreds of miles, stocking a pantry, giving, praying, or simply showing up when help is needed.

Breathitt County Hunger Alliance
On September 14, Servants of Our Lord Ministry visited Breathitt County Hunger Alliance in Jackson, Kentucky, and spent time with its founder, Patsy S. Clair.
Patsy began this ministry in December 2020, helping distribute USDA Farmers to Families food boxes. The organization endured devastating floods and a 2023 fire that destroyed nearly all its inventory, yet neighbors, donors, and volunteers helped it continue serving.
Today, this all-volunteer organization provides a walk-in food pantry, senior food boxes, clothing, household goods, and Christmas toys throughout Breathitt County and nearby communities. We are thankful for Patsy's warm welcome and the faithful work of her volunteers.

Remembering Our Founder
On September 13, the ninth anniversary of Roger Whaley's homegoing, Steve and Sally were serving in Kentucky again. Servants of Our Lord Ministry exists because Roger saw hunger in the hills and believed the Lord still cared about empty tables.
After he went home in 2017, the need did not go home with him. Dedicated volunteers kept loading, traveling, serving, and treating every person with dignity. The same Lord who numbered Roger's days is still numbering meals. God is not finished; the harvest is still His.
